Miss Ambitious.

I have a new obsession with corsets and want to make one out of these fabrics that I have.
I purchase them in haste because I had brought the last of a fabric just like the green one at a Walmart but it didn't have the metallic fans in it. I'm not sure how the matalic part would hold up to a regularly worn garment as it is pretty stiff and would probably crack. So now I'm researching corsets and patterns as if I needed another project. :?
I always think that ethnic prints in more traditional garments make a peice very interesting, like kente design cloth as a collar on a tailored jacket for example.

*sigh* So much creative ideas....if I can only buy time!

luv ya mean it!

Updates

I plan on updating the blogs on the sidebar so if any of you would like to be featured on my list please send me a email at divinedimeatgmail.com. I have many many many of you beauty and sewing ladies in my google reader, in fact I have 185 subscriptions currently, but haven't gotten around to putting everyone on the sidebar.

Any cool widgets? Let me know! My sidebar is a lil uneven right now and that kind of irks me a little. So I could add a few more :)

On the makeup tip....I'm really feeling the Tempting quad now and I now must have the Manish Aura palette. At first I thought I could do without even though the packaging was super hot, but then I realized that I didn't have the blue like I thought. I have Big T and Freshwater and I was getting them confused with Deep Truth although I don't know why. I will probably not get the tempting quad and just get the Manish Aura palette. All of you ladies rocking the tempting quad have been doing a good job at making it "tempting" ;)

Sewing is going nowhere right now but I plan on going to an ASG meeting this Sat. and I have a Silver Spring meet up next Sat. So hopefully I will have a project at least started before the 27th.

love ya mean it
Hopefully I'll have some pictures and more chat later!

? for ya!

What happens when your google picture (Picasa) gets past the 500 picture mark? Does it make another blog album or do you have to pay to increase the blog album? I'm only at about 8% of my total Picasa limit but my blog album is at 480 pictures I think.

The importance of swatching:Overrich Pigment Swatches

Overrich Pigments have gotten a lot of talk not because they are so beautiful, but because of the change in amount, but no change in the price. These pigments are only 4.3oz while the standard pigment size is 7.5oz. MAC claims that these are so finely milled and super pigmented thus the change in the size, however I believe that if your getting less you should pay less no matter how fancy smancy you try to make it out to be. So since I knew I wasn't going to use a whole bottle and with the size controversy, I decided to buy samples from thebodyneeds.com. My reason for trying the Overrich collection was I fell in love with the promo picture that features AntiqueGreen, Blondes Gold, Heritage Rouge and Mega Rich, moreso Antique Green is what had me, but why is that the one I am the least impressed with!!!! I'm so glad I didn't just go on ahead and buy a full bottle!

Here is the order from left to right

Antique Green, Vintage Gold, Museum Bronze, Copperbeam, Blonde's Gold, Mega Rich, and Heritage Rouge.

Dry (Mega Rich and Heritage Rouge are on the bottom)

Foiled at the bottom

Foiled at the bottom
Antique Green, Vintage Gold, Museum Bronze, Copperbeam, Blonde's Gold, Mega Rich, and Heritage Rouge.
So after swatching my new favs are the last four Copperbeam, Blonde's Gold, Mega Rich, and Heritage Rouge. Mega Rich really surprised me as it is a nice orange with slight sparkle. I think everyone could use blonde's gold in their life. Coppering over top of sketch could get you close to Copperbeam. Heritage Rouge, Blonde's Gold, and Copperbeam are pretty strong without the foiling but the other ones need it for a good color payoff. For those that have seen the Overrich pigments what say you?

Thanks for the help!!!

Ok so with all of your assistance I have decided on 6799 of the giraffe print in view C and the zebra will be the high wasted pencil skirt and an obi belt (thanks justme). I really like the idea of the zebra fabric as a jacket too but I just don't have enough for the jacket patterns that I have.
Narcissaqtpie it was the one in Pasadena! It's the only one I know of actually. Why are you on ban?
Oh there I go holding conversations! Narcissaqtpie you need twitter! LOL!

In my other world my MAC Pigment Samples came! Heres what I got:
Museum Bronze
Heritage Rouge
Blonde's Gold
Copperbeam
Mega Rich
Antique Green
Vintage Gold
I haven't swatched them yet but I'm in love with Antique Green!!!! Just by looking at it I already want another sample container! LOL! Other favorites just by looks alone are Blondes's Gold and Heritage Rouge. I will try to do some swatching tonight!
The Body Needs also included a sample of Reflects Pearl Glitter Brillants. For those that use sample pigments where do you buy from? Share!

I need some assistence!!!!

All my lovely bloggers I need some help with what to do with my animal print fabric.

I just have two yards of each which limits me a bit. It is a very soft material that has a nice drape. I could always go back to Hancocks or get one more yard a piece. If I had three yards this is what I would be making hands down.

Butterick 4723
View A is the one with the animal print but it needs 2 7/8- 3 yards.

Alas that pattern will have to wait for some solid color fabric I got downstairs!
Anyway out of these ideas which do you like? You could pick one print for one style and one print for another, or both in the same style.
New Look 6799

Vogue 8425
Yesterday I saw a post on Lynne's blog that showed high wasted skirts in animal prints.

I was thinking the wasteband of C but the length of A?

Warning Cult of Cherry Rant!!!

I'm tired of people saying that they were disappointed about cult of cherry!!! I mean how many obnoxiously barbie pink lipsticks do we effing need!! Maybe if they put damn cherry stickers on the fucking package or made the tube a deep red, then the same people would be all over it!
This is one of the rare releases that would flatter almost everyone so it's kind of unbelievable to me.

Thats it!

I know everyone is entitled to their opinion but I was about to Martin Lawrence Big Mama on this girl today!

Talking bout my cult of cherry.....who that heffa think she is!

I'm in debt up to my eyeballs!!!!

Remember that commercial with the dude on the riding mower and at the country club? At the end he says 'somebody help me'. Well folks I'm not in debt up to my eyeballs......at least I don't think but I'm pushing 3o and I should have been had this stuff all figured out.
:( :O :@ ?
IRA's
CD's
401K's
:( :O :@ ?

The only thing I have done is every body has an insurance policy!! I think that is the lesson that having a parent die when you are a teenager teaches you.
I don't save at all unfortunately. Life always has something for me to spend those extra pennies on. Then there is my little spending habits for makeup, books, fabric, and patterns. The little bit of money that doesn't go to bills are such PENNIES for real that I just say what the hell and spend it on something that will make me happy. That's another thing shopping really does make me happy! I get all gitty when I push the submit button. I also have a dead beat baby daddy that doesn't pay child support. I have two beautiful girls who go to a lovely PRIVATE school. In addition to tuition, private schools have pictures and fund raisers every other day......did you know that? Which reminds me I have to give them a check tomorrow! Betta put that on the centro! My children like to eat at restraunts....like they know them by name! "Can we go to applebees mommy?" I have a older jeep. Thank God gas has taken a dip, but my ass drives regardless cause I can't stand the feeling that I can't go somewhere when I want to. I can vegitate in the house all day by choice but the minute it is because I can't afford the gas to get me there........I break out in hives (not really, but still)
I brought the full version of YNAB, damn 3 months ago, ask me have I done anything with it... go on.

HELL NO!

*sigh*

I had an ING account but they closed it cause I didn't put anything for a long time. It was very funny and sad getting that check for $10.58.

I avoid looking at my balances at all cost, I just don't want to know!

So B's post about her Hello Kitty Bank of America card on twitter got me thinking about my money. I ain't too sure what it is that I'm trying to formulate here but it made sense at the time. Since B told me that to open the account is free online and savings is free as long as you have at least $25 automatically put into savings from the checking account, AND they got that little keep the change bit that puts the change of all your purchases with the debt card into savings and matches it as well for a short period of time(damn thats a run on sentence for ya) I thought it sounded like a good deal. Thanks B! And of course I had to get the hello kitty card too!

Ok now I know what I was thinking. :)
If I keep the other account for bills only and the BOA for my other spending, it would force me to look more carefully at my balances then just guesstamating when I'm at the checkout. I would have to actually *GASP* budget myself.

The funny thing is despite my crazy spending I haven't bounced a check yet. *knock on wood *

I see some people put their net worth on their finincial blogs, geez mine would probably be in the neg right now. Imma figure it out though and still keep my MAC, Joanns, simplicity, eatting out, amazon.com habit! :)
Or marry a billioniare ;)

Monday, September 8, 2008

Ok so I want to post this but I'm not in mood!

My shoulder is kicking ass and taking names right now so this will probably not be as in depth as I wanted it to be. There may also be some R rated language in here cause pain makes me cuss, but I will promise that it will be context and not the randomn damns and others that I say to myself! :)
This isn't all of it cause quite frankly I got too much shit and I'm tired of taking pictures or saving from simplicity/mccalls website :) There was a 1.99 simplicity sale at Joanns, and at my local Hancocks the woman forgot to take the down the .99 Butterick sale signs, so I got them for the sale price. Loves it.....to quote B!!!
I'm getting to the point that I need some organization to my sewing life. I have so much fabric but some of the stuff I don't know what the hell it is made of or how much I brought. I also got patterns out the wahzoo but yet I still want more. If I made something from all my patterns I would have to get rid of all my RTW clothes because there would be no room!!! I need a plan folks and I need to get the sewing room together instead of having a billion little Joann and Hancock bags full of thead and notions all over the place. Anyhoo on to the pictures cause I know it gets boring without pictures:

I got 4 yards of this cotton because when I saw it, I was instantly reminded of this:

I know it's not even close but like I said it just sort of reminded me of Korto's Dress

Simplicity 3803 maybe?

Now that I look at it that's a lot swirlys but hey it was on sale so I'll make it work someway in something!
Ok loving the animal print! Wish I had brought more!
That thing is called a Grabit and Madisyn is having more fun with it than me! I have to watch it because it misteriously showed up in the hallway last night.Stuff!

Why do I always pick the fabric that only has a little bit on the bolt? Madisyn likes to say"She'll take it all!!!! This is only a yard and a half :( Maybe a lil jacket cause the pattern is too raised to be a skirt to me but then again maybe a pencil skirt might look nice. It was in the Joann's coupon book as a sheath dress but I don't have a enough for a dress from the patterns I have.

More Patterns

It's the pants and shorts not the tops!

Just the Retro one on top is new! The picture on the website was horrible.

This is a fit pattern that is suppose to help you correct all of your fitting challanges.

I'll come back and put in the pattern numbers and all that good stuff later! Time to lay down!!!

Responses!

Hey hey y'all,
Sometimes I wonder where is the best place to put responses to posts......so sometimes I don't do any at all................my bad!!!!! :o Y'all still love me right? LOL!! Since last post was so interesting I decided to make a whole post response.

Janel: Thanks hun, I know what you mean about the 'i just got them but they asking when I'm cutting them' thing. I have a witty comeback for that one though . I usually say "Not today" and leave it at that. P.S. I haven't found that side hustle to support my fabric/pattern yet......shoot!

Amina : You are always so sweet hun, not just to me but all the sista blogs and that is real special! I give you the sweet blogger of the century award!!

justme: Thanks! Girl I wish I had something to say, but my mind always draws a total blank!! I love the rain pictures too... just had to share!! P.S I loved your how to save money and grocery store rant video!

Suzie: Girl I think they just catch you on the right day sometimes. Well your my loose natural hair idol and I think you do a fab job!!!! P.S Your pattern came!!!

Kiana: Thanks hun! Instead of restless leg syndrom how about restless hair syndrom! (RHS)

Jen: The southern midwest accent is infectious! I bust out laughing in the supermarket when I got the message. I get 'where you from' at least 3 times a month.

Well I got a pattern post and pics to work on!!!
Later gators!

Sometimes I don't like Reader!

So I made a mistake and clicked post before I was done with my last post, so those that only look at reader aren't getting the full effect of that post. So please click on that last post to get the right post. Please!
So why can't you delete mistakes from reader, or why doesn't it automatically update with what is current on a post? Is there some button I just don't know about?
Why can't you comment from reader?.........or is it just me?
I guess if I didn't comment every once in a while I wouldn't know what your blogs look like at all LOL!
And why isn't my mobile blogging txt not coming through for my new phone set up...GRRR!

*Edit*Of locs, rain, and old white ladies, and makeup ;)

Hey Blogging Fam!! I hope y'all are having a good weekend so far! Safe journey to all going up to NYC for Fashion Week! It's funny that for somebody who loves to sew and loves clothes, the whole run way thing just doesn't appeal to me. I mean seeing them sashsaying down the runway ain't helping me figure out how I can dupe it!! I need a Vogue mag or a Harper Bazzar for that! LOL!
Then some of that stuff that put out is just ridiculous!

Really?

NO REALLY?
Christian Dior

But anyway that is not what this post is about! This is a hodgepodge post mainly focusing on my locs!! I so rarely do a post about them. I promise to start doing product reviews and like soon. Here lateley though I have been comtemplating what's next. In November it will be six years. Most people I know seem to cut them off at the 7-10 year mark, and I must admit fleeting thoughts here and there creep into my mind:
HMMMM I wonder could I pick them apart?
How long would it be?

Maybe we can start over a different way? Braidlocs? Smaller two strandtwist? Bigger two strand twist?
I don't know.
Today I have a lot of loc love because it is raining cats and dogs here and I don't own an umbrella.....and it really doesn't matter to me!!! Rain pours on me and I could care less! When I was a permie........Shoot the wind couldn't blow to hard or I was having a fit! LOL

You can see the rain drops if you click on the pic!

The rain from my window

Oh and just so you know the girls have their umbrellas! I'll subject my self to the elements but I make sure they are covered LOL!!!

ANYHOO back to the hair!
A week ago I was in the Subway within a Walmart to get soft prezetels for the girls. This old white lady with an oxygen tank and sitting in one of those scooter wheel chair things(sorry I don't know the technical term for them) asks me:
"When you wash your hair do they come out?"
"No they don't"
OMG if y'all could have seen the look on her face!!! You would have thought my ass turned into pigpin from Charle Brown.
Now of course I had no witty comeback or snappy remark! I just turned around and placed my order. Maybe some of my hair germs magically drifted onto her sammiches that she had no damn business ordering by the look of her condition.

I can smile at it now, but that day I felt a lil down I guess

I mean I pride myself on having some clean locs. Everyone that has ever done my hair say I do a really good job at maintaining them myself. I know I am judged on a daily bases but geez I never really had a person be so open about there disgust in my appearance.
My job isn't in corperate american and everyone I come across there are either regular black folks, or the "concious Afrikian" crew always tryin to school you on something, or hippy white folks or regular white people into wholestic health care, and their offspring who don't "seem" racist and or predjudice.
I guess I am pretty sheltared.

So where are you going hair?
Are you apart of my "conscious" journey?
Are you my protection from the World? (Honestly Locs seem to keep away a lot trifling people and Ay Girl calls!)
Or
Are you just hair creeping down my back?

Are you just some coils on my head meant only to protect me from the elements?

Deep Thoughts? No?

I leave you guys with some makeup, as this was the focus of this blog some 187 post ago!

That is only Girl Friendly pant pot from MAC and in Engraved Pencil from MAC! ONLY! I love my paint pots. That's the day I wore my dress, but the day was so long that I really did not feel like getting Madisyn to take pictures of me in it. Maybe it was the stockings I decided to wear that day, but I just wanted to get everything off of me when I got home.

The last two pictures are just because I like them! :)This one reminds me of Mandilicious for some reason. Don't know why.

And this one is just........Peace!

Something I Will Actually Wear!!! (McCalls 5292)

So I finished this little number today!!!!!
(View C)

She had to get in on the action!

This is some CHEAP fabric I got from Walmart. I can't even remember what the hell it is. I got to get better at documenting the yardage I buy and what it is made of. Looking at it twice I think it is the stuff you make the scarecrow or witch costume from! Eek!

Maybe I will get me a witches hat and be a sexy witch for Halloween.........not!

Yes Betsy arms really do help!
( My dressform's name is Betsy by the way. She scares the shit out of me many of nights :O)

Now I'm in love with the dress because it is the first thing that I have made that I am comfortable with going out in public with, but she is not without her faults.
Yeah I got a lil wonky with the midriff meeting up even on both sides. I was so excited to finish that I didn't pay it any mind until the zipper was half way in. And honey I wasn't taking it apart at that point LOL! Yes the zipper is pretty fugly too but sheesh give me a break, this is the first centered zip with topstiching I have ever done by the way. :)
A friend of mine who is very near and dear to my heart lost his mother and I had wanted to make this to attend the funeral, but alas the wedding kind of ate up all of my last minute time. In all black it seems pretty formal for day to day wear but I think I may lighten it up with different belts scarfs.
I really like the pattern and will probably buy it again because I really wasn't that careful with the pattern paper. I was basically trying to make a dress in two days so I don't know where all of it is and I have probably cut the skirt pattern all crooked so I couldn't cut another one from it.
Well folks I'm tired and I have to wake up pretty early in order to do my makeup to do this dress some justice.

Luv ya, mean it!

Good Times!!!!

Hey everyone! Are you enjoying your Labor Day? I'm excited because this the first Labor Day I have had off in a good while.

On Saturday the Pretty Committee met up for some shopping at the CCO!

From Left to Right Lakia, Suzie, Moi, Nikkia, Toni (Kia's sister), and Kia
(Sheryl also came but I think she might have been looking a jewelry at that time and that is Nikkia's sister taking the picture)

The kids stayed doing their own thing in these pictures! LOL
My camera battery has died so I will have to wait until they charge to show you what I got: MAC Fertile Eyeshadow, MAC Mauvism Paint, MAC lipglass in Trifle, and tendertone in Warm Beige.
After shopping we all headed to Chevy's to grab a bite! Mango Margaretta's are the bomb!
I know I told her about 50million times at the table but Nikkia saved the day fo' real y'all, but I'll keep the details between those of the Pretty Committee! Now don't you wish you had come?!!

I can't escape without going in the Bass Pro Store! In fact I think it is official that if I don't enter through that entrance a mutiny may ensue and y'all know I'm out numbered :)

FOTD
We were suppose to do a summer bronze look with punchy lips.
